Student LoginAs a key component of the BSc (Hons.) in Data Science and AI program at IIT Guwahati, students undertake internships lasting 3 to 9 months after completing 24 foundational courses covering core concepts in data science, AI, and computational methods. These internships offer students crucial exposure to real-world applications, allowing them to apply their learning in dynamic, data-driven environments — across industry, research labs, and academia.
Internship windows:
- September – November
- January – March
- May – July
To deepen their contributions, students also have the option to extend their engagement through a 12-month capstone project, continuing work on the same or a related problem in collaboration with the host organization. We invite recruiters, startups, research labs, and academic institutions to partner with us in shaping the next generation of data and AI professionals.
The BSc (Hons.) in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence offered by IIT Guwahati is a forward-looking undergraduate program designed to build strong foundations in data science, AI, and computational thinking. In my role overseeing the internship evaluation process, I have the opportunity to observe every student closely across three internships undertaken with IIT faculty, startups, and industry partners, alongside term projects many students pursue on their own initiative. Each internship concludes with a structured report, a video presentation, and a viva voce—a cycle that reveals far more than academic transcripts do. Through this process, students develop the ability to document their work rigorously, articulate their contributions clearly, and defend their reasoning under direct questioning. One observation stands out consistently: academic grades show little correlation with a student's actual performance during internships. It is consistency of engagement, curiosity, and growth across these cycles—including the projects they choose to pursue independently—that truly distinguishes our learners.
