Course Description

This course examines climate change not only as an environmental crisis, but as a fundamental economic and political economy challenge that requires concrete policy and strategic responses.

It introduces core economic concepts to explain why climate change persists, while also exploring the political and institutional constraints that shape what climate action is feasible in practice.

With a strong emphasis on justice, equity, and the Global South, the course draws applied lessons from India and South Asia, equipping participants to think critically about real-world policy design, implementation, and decision-making in climate-affected sectors.

  • Explain why market mechanisms alone fail to address climate change
  • Analyse trade-offs between growth, equity, and climate action
